FAQ

1) What is your deposit policy?

Most of our babies are reserved before they are weaned.  As a result, we strongly recommend you place a deposit to reserve a baby.  Our orders are filled on a first come, first served basis.  We require a non-refundable deposit of 1/3 of the purchase price of the bird to reserve it until it is weaned.  The remaining balance (including any other charges such as shipping, etc.) is due when the bird is weaned (if local) or two weeks before the bird is weaned if not local.  DNA test fees are due with deposit. The bird must be shipped or picked up within 7 days after weaning unless other arrangements are made in advance.  We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.  And, we reserve the right to refund your deposit and refuse to sell you a baby.

2) Do you sell unweaned babies?

Typically, no. We occasionally sell unweaned babies to EXPERIENCED hand feeders only.  By experienced, we mean someone who has successfully hand fed at least 25 baby parrots from at least 3 weeks of age until they are weaned.  We will not sell any bird at under 3 weeks of age. We WILL verify that you actually have experience.  We do NOT offer a guarantee on unweaned babies.  We reserve the right to refuse to ship any baby if we feel it will be detrimental to the health of the chick.

3) Is it true that I have to be careful about the use of chemicals around my bird?

Toxic fumes that are present in your house can kill your bird in just a few minutes.  For example, the use of Teflon® coated pans has been linked to many avian deaths, particularly if food is burned and smoke and/or fumes are present.  Obviously, any pesticides or other chemical fumes are toxic and potentially fatal as well.  Many household cleaners on the market today can kill your bird and harm your family.  If toxic fumes are present in your home, immediately open windows and doors, and move your bird(s) to a well ventilated area.  To prevent toxic cleaners from harming your bird (and your family), consider switching to a safer alternative that is just as effective.  You can find information about creating a healthier and safer home for you and your family by emailing us.   Click

4)  Will my baby parrot bond with me if I don't participate in the hand feeding?

Absolutely.  We sell almost all of our babies fully weaned.  If you continue to offer your baby parrot a healthy environment, diet, and lovingly socialize it, your baby will form a strong bond.  In fact, we believe that a baby who is properly weaned and socialized by experts will be healthier physically, mentally, and emotionally.

5)  Are males or females better pets?

There are a lot of myths and opinions surrounding the gender and personalities of birds.  I believe with proper socialization, either gender makes for a wonderful pet.  If you are simply curious about which gender your baby parrot is, please inquire about our optional DNA test .  We usually get the results in a few days.

6) Do you ship?

Yes, we ship all over the United States and Canada (and occasionally other countries).  We ship via the airlines.  We use only counter to counter shipping.  The bird will be in temperature controlled and pressurized cargo areas at all times.  We are certified known shippers with three airlines.  For the safety of the bird, we will not ship on days with extreme weather, extreme traffic, or shortened cargo hours.  We only ship during conditions most favorable for the bird.  If you have your bird shipped, we will inform you of all the pertinent information, including flight number(s), arrival times, etc.  Shipping insurance is available for a nominal fee.  If shipping to Canada, Puerto Rico, etc., please be aware that additional time, permits, fees, and charges are mandatory. We reserve the right to refuse to ship any baby if we feel it will be detrimental to the health of the chick.

 7)  Do you have a health guarantee?

Yes.  We offer a limited genetic health guarantee starting when the bird leaves our facilities.    You may not expose the bird to any other birds or any used bird equipment (cages, toys, perches, etc.) during the guarantee period.   You may, at your expense, get the bird examined by a certified avian veterinarian.   Should a health problem be determined that cannot be cured, we will, at our discretion, replace the bird with one of the same kind, or refund your money. Because we can not control what happens when the bird leaves our facility, we DO NOT guarantee against contagious illnesses or illness related to bacteria.

8)  Should I quarantine my bird?

Yes.  All birds moving from one location to another should be quarantined if there are other birds in the home.  When a bird comes into a new environment, s/he is exposed to many new sources of bacteria, both good and bad.  Further, being moved into a new home causes at least some stress to the bird.  Quarantine reduces stress on the bird and slows down the introduction of "new" bacteria (both good and bad) for the new bird.

9) Can I tour your aviary?

No.  Full Nest Aviary is just that: an aviary.  We are not a zoo or an educational fieldtrip for you or your children.  Striking the perfect balance to make a pair of birds feel comfortable mating and raising babies is difficult.  Leading strangers through the aviary while a Mom and Dad bird are protecting babies makes them feel unsafe and distracted.  It is not fair to the parents OR the babies, and it is counterproductive for the aviary.  Further, many people who are considering buying a bird go to many different pet stores, bird fairs, and aviaries.  For bio-security measures, it is unsafe to allow people in the aviary who have possibly been exposed to sick birds at other facilities.
